Just like Thoreau's philosophy, McCnandless thought that the less a person has, the more exciting their days are, and the more they can get close with nature. Thoreau lived in a very small house with one room. He did not have that much of furniture, and he was not wealthy. He thought that since he is living out in the woods, he should not have anything too technological, and just be with nature. McCandless' opinion was the same. He thought that his life would be so much better if he did not have alot of money, and if he did not have to spend that much of money, as stated in this quote. Also, since if he goes into the nature, and the woods, the forest, then all those stuff would not be necessary anyway, so he found them useful only when he was out in the society.
