McCandless' attitude toward a flawed society #5

"On weekends, when his high school pals were attending "keggers" and trying to sneak into Georgetown bars, McCandless would wander the seedier quarters of Washington, chatting with prostitutes and homeless people, buying them meals, earnestly suggesting ways they might improve their lives."

  1. This quote shows another side of McCandless. from how McCandless is expressed in the novel, it is easy to get confused, and think that he is kind of selfish, and that he only knows how to express his own feelings. However,McCandless really wants everyone to be happy, and live fairly.
When people are in highschool, or even college, it is very natural for them to just think of themselves, and want to go partying, not looking around them, helping others that need help. But McCandless was different. He wanted the society to enjoy their lives. He wanted to have everyone understand the joy of being able to live, have contacts with nature, and just be themselves. He wanted to help the small portion of society, where people did not really know what "fun" is, and how to improve themselves. McCandless wanted the society to have the feeling that he has about living a life.
